THE THERAPIES
Reflexology
Reflexology is based on the principle that the organs and structures of the body are “mapped out” or reflected in our feet. The same applies to the hands, but the feet are more usually treated as they are more sensitive.
By treating the feet with a sequence of massage and pressure on specific areas, the whole body can benefit.
As well as being helpful in dealing with many physical conditions such as joint and muscle pain, headaches, circulation and digestive disorders, reflexology has been found to reduce stress levels and improve sleep patterns. The treatment itself is very relaxing, but its main benefit is in restoring and maintaining the delicate balance of the body’s systems, which is necessary for good health. A treatment takes about 45 minutes, and is carried out with the client reclining in a purpose-built chair. |
Traditional Indian head Massage
Indian head Massage is a technique using firm and gentle strokes to massage the upper back, neck, arms, scalp and face, helping to release both muscular and nervous tension.
It often helps with conditions such as tension, headaches, neck and shoulder stiffness and ear and sinus problems, and brings about a sense of calm, relaxation and general well-being.
A full session takes about 35 minutes and can be carried out over clothing.
Also called Champissage, this therapy is partly adapted from ”Champi”, the traditional Indian head massage which has been practised in the Indian sub-continent for over a thousand years. Its other derivation is from the ancient Indian medical system of Ayurveda (Life Knowledge), and uses the body’s energy centres (chakras) and pressure points to enhance the effect of the massage. |
Aromatherapy massage
Aromatherapy is another therapy which has been used all over the world for thousands of years. It employs the use of essential oils, derived from plants, which have been found to help with many disorders, but which are especially effective when used in conjunction with massage, to reduce stress and bring about relaxation.
The massage itself can either be a full body treatment or just the back, shoulders and neck. It is quite gentle, the main purpose being to encourage relaxation and to help the absorption of the oils into the skin.
The choice of oils will be made in consultation with the client, and will be specially blended for each session, taking into account her/his specific preferences and needs at the time.
A full-body treatment will take about 45 minutes. |
Tera Mai Reiki/Seichem
Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) and Seichem (Say-keem) are ancient forms of natural healing which balance the body’s inner energies and promote physical and emotional well-being and relaxation.
The therapist gently places his/her hands on or just above the client, in various positions working around the body. The process allows the release of blockages which can create imbalances and “dis-ease”.
A treatment last about 45 minutes and is carried out over clothing.
Reiki/Seichem can benefit everyone and will complement and sometimes increase the effectiveness of other natural therapies.
There is no belief system attached to Reiki, but it is based on the principle that the body is comprised of energy lines and systems. It also acknowledges that the universe is made up of similar forces and that we as individuals can tap into these forces to aid the balancing and healing process. |
